What is Hemp?

One of the first crops cultivated by man, hemp is now used to craft over 25,000 items; from eco-friendly building materials to nutrition supplements.

Hemp is the non-psychoactive branch of the cannabis plant genus. It contains some of the same compounds —which we’ll talk about next— as it’s cousin, marijuana, but it doesn’t make you “high.”

DID YOU KNOW?
Hemp was such a vital crop in the 17th-18th centuries, that it was illegal in some states for farmers not to grow it.

What Are Cannabinoids?

All mammals have an Endocannabinoid System (ECS) made up of receptors and neurotransmitters in the brain, immune system, central and peripheral nervous system.

The ECS’ purpose is to keep us in a state of homeostasis, which it does by regulating many physiological processes that can be related to mood, apetite, and more.

When out of balance, many issues can arise. This area is still being studied and, as a nutrition supplement, we cannot make health claims about our products.

In order for the Endocannabinoid System to function, the body utilizes compounds called cannabinoids. Some of these natural chemical compounds are produced within the body (endo-cannabinoids), but we can also supplement them from plants (phyto-cannabinoids), like CBD found in hemp oil.

Cannabinoids found in hemp oil interact with the same system as our endo-cannabinoids, making it a truly natural way to support the bodies of cats, dogs and humans alike.

Is Hemp Legal?

Yes. Hemp oil is legal if it contains 0.3% or less THC; the psychoactive ingredient that gives marijuana it’s recreational appeal.

Both CBD and THC are cannabinoids, but they have different affinities for cannabinoid receptors in the Endocannabinoid System. This leads them to have entirely different effects on the body.
